This shall only be applicable to a maximum of one child per passenger. Pictor offers train booking for the Nairobi to Mombasa train is also known as Madaraka Express or locally, SGR Train (Standard Gauge Railway). It passes through several stations; Athi River, Emali, Kibwezi, Mtito Andei, Voi, Miaseny and Mariakani. It takes a scenic route through Nairobi National Park and Tsavo East National Park. You are likely to encounter wildlife such as the African Elephant, giraffes among others. It is preferable to book a train ticket between Nairobi and Mombasa as it is cheaper than a flight. In addition, it has magnificent scenery and is quicker than road. It takes approximately 5 hours on the express service and approximately 6 hours on the inter-county service. There are 3 coach services of choice;

  • Premium Class
To book a seat, you have to book online through the portal and print tickets at the booths in the train stations. However, the portal only allows booking with local payment systems. It is preferable to book at least 2 weeks before date of travel due to high demand (especially on weekends and holidays). Upon booking, you will receive an email confirmation with a unique code that you will present at the station on the day of travel for ticket printing.

Cancellation and Refund Terms

  1. Cancelling of tickets should be done at least seventy-two (72) hours before the departure time indicated on the ticket irrespective of the date/time the ticket was purchased.
  2. In order to cancel a ticket, one must provide the original identification documents and a photocopy of the same
  3. Refunds shall be subject to the customer paying a 30% fee of the fare
  4. Cancellations/refunds are done over the counter at the nearest Madaraka Express Passenger Service station
  5. Requests for a refund will be rejected in cases where the tickets are damaged/tampered with (unrecognizable)

Rescheduling Terms

  1. Tickets should be rescheduled seventy-two (72) hours or more before the departure time indicated on the ticket irrespective of the date/time the ticket was purchased.
  2. Rescheduling of tickets is done using the details provided during the initial booking instance (same class, same service, same person).
  3. Tickets are rescheduled over the counter at the nearest Madaraka Express Passenger Service station
  4. Rescheduling a ticket will attract a 10% fee of the fare
  5. A ticket can only be rescheduled once.
  6. Rescheduling is subject to availability of tickets
